Print Screen on Apple Mac
Apple Macintosh (Mac) does not have a print screen key. Instead, key combinations starting with ⌘ Cmd + ⇧ Shift are used to do a print screen, or screen capture. For example,
- ⌘ Cmd + ⇧ Shift + 3 captures the whole screen.
- ⌘ Cmd + ⇧ Shift + 4 captures part of the screen to be selected.
The following are details on how to print screen in different ways.

- Press the Apple command key ⌘ + Shift ⇧ + 3 at the same time.
- A capture of the whole screen is saved on your desktop named like ‘Screen shot 2014-02-17 at 1.11.11 PM’
2. Capturing Selected Portion of the Screen
- Press the Apple command key ⌘ + Shift ⇧ + 4 at the same time.
- The cursor changes to a ‘+’ sign with pixel coordinates.
- Position the cursor and drag a box.
- A capture of the selected portion is saved on your desktop named like ‘Screen shot 2014-02-17 at 1.11.11 PM’
3. Capturing Application Window
- Press the Apple command key ⌘ + Shift ⇧ + 4 at the same time.
- The cursor changes to a ‘+’ sign with pixel coordinates.
